Gurren Lagann...Dub
Jul. 29th, 2008 05:35 amSo I got episode 1 of the Gurren Lagann dub. I don't like a few things about it, and therefore probably won't watch it.
1. The names are pronounced like their Japanese accented counterparts, ie. "See-mone" instead of Simon. Except "Yoko" sound weird...I couldn't make it out. It sounded like "Yoka" or even "Yokum".
2. Other nouns important to the series are oddly spoken like the VAs are trying to keep Japanese accents intact.
2.a Except (oddly) for Ganmen...they say Gunmen...weird.
2.b And (oddly) Lagann...which pronounce like it's french, "La Gone". As in, the "La" is very very separate from the "Gone" and accentuated.
3. Voices: Simon sounds too old. Kamnina sounds to young, and NOT deep/cool enough. Yoko is ok, sounds like the english VA for Rukia on Bleach.
4. Editing: Seems so far to be at a minimum. Minor language changes to fit the mouth movements of course. A "dumbass" was said from Kamina, which was about the harshest word I heard...but it is only episode 1, and it's not like I have the Japanese script memorized.
Ya, so I will probably get the episode with Viral in it, so I can see what they did to him, but beyond that, I'm not too interested.
